The furniture firm worked with the BBC team on all six episodes of the new series

Heartwarming BBC home renovation series DIY SOS has teamed up with Hull manufacturer Wren to create life-changing homes for families and communities in need. Bosses at Wren told how they are proud to be back alongside the much-loved show’s team for a second time as it returns this autumn for a 35th series.

Across six new episodes, the DIY SOS team has brought together volunteers, local tradespeople and businesses to create transformative spaces for people who need them most. Wren donated and installed fully equipped kitchens, complete with worktops, appliances and utilities, alongside beautifully designed bedrooms to help make each transformed property truly feel like home.

Colleagues from across the business rolled up their sleeves and joined the builds in person, working shoulder to shoulder with the DIY SOS crew, local tradespeople, other professionals and community volunteers to help get each project over the line.

Wren fitter Darren Lewis who worked on all the builds in the latest series said: “I’ve watched the programme so many times over the years, so it was a real privilege to actually be part of it. What struck me was the sheer scale of the team effort, the number of volunteers and businesses giving their time and donating everything needed to get these projects finished.

“It was a genuinely rewarding experience, and hugely emotional too. Seeing the gratitude on the families’ faces and realising the difference all of our contributions can make, that’s what made every hour of it so worthwhile.”

In the first episode, Wren helped Raymond Connolly and his daughter Nell, who needs wheelchair access at home following a number of operations. Nell’s mum had given up her job to become her main carer but passed away, just as the family were getting started on adapting the family home. DIY SOS stepped in to help the family to get back some normality in their lives.

The series also sees presenter Nick Knowles and the team step in to help a widow and her three children. Georgie and her husband Chris based in Devon, had bought a doer-upper, but tragedy struck soon after moving in when Chris died suddenly. The Wren team helped to build and kit out a rear extension with an open-plan kitchen-diner, and a new side extension with a utility room, toilet and a fourth bedroom.

Raf Klimek, chief operating officer, added: “It was a privilege to work with the DIY SOS team for a second time. These builds are a real team effort, with everyone involved contributing their time, skills and expertise. Wren was proud to provide fully equipped kitchens and bedrooms, along with colleagues on the ground supporting the work on site.

“Giving back to communities matters to us, and we’re delighted to have played a part in creating homes that will make a lasting difference to the families who live in them.”

The 35th series of DIY SOS began on September 22 on BBC One and is also available on BBC iPlayer.
