‘This really does feel like she’s still looking after us’
A retired couple from Hull have won £500,000 in a National Lottery draw with numbers selected for a very poignant reason. They matched the five main numbers in a Thunderball draw in August.
The win proved to be particularly emotional as they were originally those picked by the winner’s late mother. Since she passed away, the couple – who have not been named – continued to play the numbers in her memory.
Speaking about the win, they said: “I won on my mum’s numbers. She passed away, and I’ve carried on playing them ever since, so this really does feel like she’s still looking after us. It won’t change my life, but it means I can now go out and buy what I want without worrying and I’m really happy to be able to help my family too.”
The couple are also planning to enjoy a nice holiday with their winnings. Penny Yeates, Winners’ Advisor at Allwyn, operator of The National Lottery, said: “Congratulations to our lucky Hull winners. What a touching win, on numbers that meant so much to the family.
“We’re delighted the win means they can treat themselves and help their loved ones. We wish them a wonderful holiday and all the very best.”
