A court heard she ‘is under no illusion as to the seriousness of her offending’

Police investigations after a man was found dead at his home later revealed that his ex-girlfriend had been sending him bottles of methadone from her own prescriptions as well as other drugs. She was traced after prescription details relating to her were found at his home.

A large number of messages exchanged between them showed that she had been sending drugs to him at his request, Hull Crown Court heard. Alexandra Hall, 45, of Blisland Close, Bransholme, Hull, admitted supplying Class A methadone and Class C drug Pregabalin between January 23 and December 26, 2024.

Tayo Dasaolu, prosecuting, said that, on December 27, 2024, police were called to a property in Nottingham after a man was found dead. During a search, discarded bottles of the heroin substitute, methadone, were found. They were linked to Hall’s prescription details and were in a bin in the kitchen.

There were mobile phone messages between Hall and the man. Police went to her home. A search was carried out and prescription drugs and controlled drugs were found.

She was asked about the items found at the man’s home. He had supplied her with diazepam and Pregabalin and she admitted supplying him with Pregabalin. There were 148 messages.

Hall sent medicine to him, which she had been prescribed. It included seven bottles of methadone. There was reference to six other bottles of methadone for £84.

Police found £870 cash at her home. Hall had convictions for weapons that were found during the same investigation.

Billy Torbett, mitigating, said that Hall pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and she had no previous drug-related convictions. She acted out of character, although the offending went on for about 11 months.

“She is under no illusion as to the seriousness of her offending,” said Mr Torbett. “She is extremely remorseful. She can’t believe she has placed herself in this position.”

Hall had been a very close friend and a former long-term girlfriend of the man who died. She received a methadone prescription but admitted that she was giving some of it to him.

“This is not any form of business or enterprise,” said Mr Torbett. Hall received Universal Credit but worked part-time as a cleaner.

“Her arrest after the death of her partner has had a significant effect on her,” said Mr Torbett. “This is a defendant who has attempted to assist her friend.

“There is no evidence any business enterprise or onward supply to others. There has been no further offending.”

Recorder Ashley Serr said that there were repeated requests by the man for medication and repeated confirmation by Hall that she would supply him. “This was not an isolated incident,” said Recorder Serr. “The supply was at his request.”

Hall was given a suspended prison sentence of two years and four months. She was given 10 days’ rehabilitation and the £870 cash seized will be forfeited and given to the St Paul’s boxing club charity, Hull.
