Sorba Thomas crashed his car in Cottingham on Friday morning
Sergej Jakirovic has jokingly labelled Sorba Thomas ‘Max Verstappen’ following his car accident on Friday morning.
Images emerged online on Friday of Thomas’ car on its roof down Millhouse Woods Lane in Cottingham, close to the club’s training ground. The Land Rover Defender appeared to have hit another car down the narrow street and the damage was obviously extensive.
Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident and Thomas emerged from the vehicle unscathed.
As such, the Wales international was named on the bench on Saturday as City took on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and City supporters serenaded him with the good humoured chant ‘Sorba Thomas, he parks where he wants’, as he entered the field of play in the second half in what was a fantastic 2-2 draw for the Tigers.
Jakirovic seemed to see the funny side too, seemingly indicating exactly how the accident occurred.
“You saw the images,” Jakirovic said when asked about the incident. “Max Verstappen…
“Everything is fine, thank God. It was an accident, it could happen to anyone. When I went there, I just asked him how do you feel and he said ‘everything is good, I’m good’.
“That’s it. It’s a car. He will buy a new one or fix this one. It’s just about car damage, everything is fine.”
Thomas played just over half an hour at Stamford Bridge after replacing Elliot Stroud and he made things happen for the Tigers, advancing down the left and putting a number of balls into the box. Ultimately, though, he helped City remain unbeaten in the Premier League as they drew 2-2 with Chelsea.
