Jakirovic is hoping to hand out a number of debuts this week

Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic expects most of his deadline day signings to be involved in his squad for Saturday’s clash with Aston Villa.

The Tigers were one of the busiest clubs in the land on the final day of the transfer window as they secured six new additions, with two being announced by the club beyond the 11pm deadline.

It represented one last push in the transfer window for City, who have been looking to add quality to their side since they won promotion to the Premier League at the end of May.

And, it seems City fans will be able to catch a glimpse of their new signings in action this weekend when the club hosts Villa in their third Premier League game.

How much of a role they will have remains to be seen, but Jakirovic hopes to be able to use most them.

“We will see tomorrow,” the head coach said when asked if they would all be involved. “Mostly they will be in the team of 20 players.

“We have some problems also from the Coventry game so we will see tomorrow who will be available.”

Jakirovic refused to open up on those injuries when asked by Hull Live, but he did confirm that both Joe Gelhardt and Matt Crooks had returned to training this week and could be involved.

“Since Monday [Gelhardt] has been in full training with the group so we will see with him and our tactical plan. He is available,” he said.

“Matt Crooks is in training so we will see tomorrow.”

Unlike the above names, Nobel Mendy has started both Premier League fixtures so far, but the centre-back has been withdrawn in the second half on both occasions.

“It’s because he missed pre-season,” Jakirovic said. “This is for the new arrivals.

“If you didn’t train with the team or in group training or if you’ve had some problems there. If you miss pre-season you will struggle until the international break because we have space to train more and harder.

“We will also try to increase minutes through the Carabao Cup, but there is no issue with Mendy.”
