Willie Peters delivered his verdicts on Jack Charles and Louix Gorman after the young pair were handed their Hull KR first-team chance against Toulouse Olympique.
Half-back Charles, 20, was making just his second appearance for the Robins following his cross-city move from Hull FC. He made his debut in the Challenge Cup third round victory over community club Lock Lane, scoring twice in the club record 104-0 victory.
Outside-back Gorman, meanwhile, was making his first senior appearance of the season, scoring a try after coming off the interchange bench in the 32-12 defeat to the French outfit.
Head coach Peters was impressed by the “energy” 21-year-old Gorman brought to the field, while insisting Charles “did some good things” before ultimately conceding fatigue set in across the contest.
Peters believes Rovers will see the best of Charles in the years to come, while the youngster could be set for an extended run in the first team following Mikey Lewis’ suspension and a fresh injury to Ryan Hampshire.
Hampshire fractured his wrist in the second half of the Round 24 contest, while Tyrone May is expected to return.
“I thought Louix Gorman showed a lot of energy. He came on for the last 15 minutes – it was difficult because I didn’t know how we were going to play him, but I wanted to play him,” Peters said.
“I thought he brought a lot of energy, and I thought Jack Charles did some good things. He then started fatiguing at that level.
“What some people might not understand, you’re developing them to get them to a certain level. To do that and go and play for 80 minutes in the halves in Super League, it’s hard. He hasn’t done that for a while.
“We’ll see the best of Jack Charles in a couple of years’ time. Whatever he goes through now and whatever he’s learning, I’m pretty sure in two years’ time you’ll see Jack Charles play out there a fair bit.”
Hull KR have dropped to sixth in the Super League table ahead of their visit to Wigan Warriors in Round 25, with Rovers just two points clear of St Helens outside the play-off places.
