Spanish Under-21 winger Pablo Garcia is edging closer to a move to Hull City, though it’s unlikely to be completed in time for the Tigers’ Premier League opener this weekend.
The winger, who is left-footed but plays off the right, is set to agree terms on a long-term switch to the MKM Stadium from La Liga side Real Betis, where he’s played 18 times for the first team in Spain’s top flight.
It’s thought City will pay in the region of £4m to sign the youngster, with Betis retaining a 50 per cent stake in any future sale. In a complex deal, the Premier League new boys would also have the option to reduce the Spanish club’s sell-on rights.
Assuming there are no late issues, Garcia, 20, could well be signed in time to get his first taste of action in English football next week when the Tigers go to Stoke City in the Carabao Cup second round on Tuesday night.

Owner Acun Ilicali confirmed in an interview on BBC Radio Humberside on Wednesday evening that the deal was ’90 per cent done’, but ruled out the Seville-born wideman featuring against Manchester United.
A regular with the Spanish Under-21 side, Garcia scored on his debut against Cyprus at the age of 19, having made his senior debut for his hometown club back in January 2025 in a win over Mallorca, coming through the club’s academy from the age of six.
As well as clocking up 15 appearances in the league last season, Garcia also played in six of Betis’ Europa League games, but was unable to help them avoid a quarter-final defeat to Braga. He did score twice in a 7-1 first-round Copa Del Rey win over lower league side Atlético Palma del Río.
Meanwhile, as Hull Live reported earlier this week, talks with Deportivo La Coruna continue over a potential deal for winger Yeremay Hernandez, though as it stands, no agreement has been reached.
The 23-year-old has been in Hull this week to assess what would potentially be his new surroundings, after Ilicali flew to La Coruna on Tuesday, but the player is yet to make a decision, with other European clubs still circling. Ilicali has also rubbished suggestions that Hernandez could be facing a lengthy spell out with a groin problem, similar to the one that is keeping defender Charlie Hughes out of action. Owing to his injury, however, Yeremay has not yet played in pre-season for Depor as he continues his recovery.
