St Helens have made a move to sign Hull FC target and Catalans Dragons centre Solomona Faataape.
The Australian centre has been a known target of the Black and Whites in recent weeks, with the Saints now stepping up their own bid to try and land the player.
Faataape is still under contract at Catalans for the 2027 season. However, a move away from the Perpignan-based outfit is expected, with St Helens now joining the race to sign the player.
No deal has been agreed or signed yet, with the Saints still without a head coach for the 2027 season after parting ways with Paul Rowley.
As for the centre spot, they also have the likes of Deon Cross and Nene Macdonald contracted next year, as well as Harry Robertson, who has played in the halves in recent weeks.
Of course, Hull first made a move for Faataape last month in a proposed swap deal that involved current player Amir Bourouh going the other way. Catalans’ head coach John Cartwright made no secret of that deal but stated it was far from straightforward.
Bourouh is also under contract at Hull for the 2027 season and, regardless of whether the Faataape swap deal happens or not, is expected to ply his trade in the South of France next season. Ironically, he is set to replace Alrix Da Costa, who will make the move to the Black and Whites at the end of the year.
Meanwhile, Faataape joined Catalans ahead of the 2026 season from NRL club Wests Tigers. He has scored nine tries in 23 appearances to date and has emerged as one of the most powerful strike centres in the competition.
Hull centre Davy Litten has also being linked with a move to Wakefield Trinity next season, with FC still in the recruitment market and expected to make further signings to their 2027 squad under Steve McNamara.
