‘I couldn’t have asked for anything more from the girls’

The girls football team at Springhead Primary have headed into their summer flying high after winning their league.
Headteacher Naomi Prutton told how proud she has been to watch the girls progress. She said: “I’m so proud of them. I was also their reception teacher seven years ago so seeing these achievements is a particularly proud moment for me.”
She continued: “The whole team have just jelled and played so well together all season. They look out for each other, they cheer each other on, they champion each other, even if they are on the side-lines, I’m really proud of them all. I love watching them play. The girls are called the Lily Whites but they could be the new future Lionesses.”
Evelyn Lamb, 11, won a School Sports Partnership Award and has just signed for Hull City, said: “Football gives me freedom to be myself and to use my strength to play. I’m excited to start playing for Hull City, I start pre-season training soon. I would definitely like to continue with football and see how far it takes me.”
Haseeb Malik, Year 5 Class Teacher and P.E. Lead & Sports Coordinator explained more: “They did the most professional job, it was five games in the final, there were nine goals scored, 0 goals conceded, four games won and one game drawn. I couldn’t have asked for anything more from the girls. The main thing that I have to say is that even though we have some great talent in the teams, it’s really just the spirit and togetherness.
“They don’t let any negativity creep in, they are just such a fantastic bunch of girls. From our initial league we went into the final which is essentially the six best teams from across the mini leagues. The girls won the local league and then with the regional one they were just fantastic.
“I’ve only been here just over a year and the main thing I noticed was the team spirit. I stepped into something that was already in a really good place and I just helped to try steer it as best as possible. I did get a bit emotional and that’s because they have just done such a great job. Trophies and medals are really nice but also they just have that experience of competing and playing together so that’s really what I wanted for them to take away.”
