Pay and display parking machines are being brought up-to-date in Hull, allowing drivers to pay with the tap of their card. Parking machines operated by Hull City Council, both on-street and in council-owned car parks, are being replaced or upgraded to include contactless payments.
Drivers will still be able to pay with existing options, including cash, telephone, online, or the MiPermit app. The first machines have been upgraded on Paragon Street, Albion Street, and Hall Street with work continuing across the city. All machines are expected to be fully operational by the end of the summer.
The work is being carried out on behalf of the council by International Parking Systems UK, a leading provider of smart parking technology and integrated payment solutions.
Portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, Councillor Mark Ieronimo, said: “Introducing contactless payments will make it quicker and easier for residents and visitors to pay for parking across Hull. Cash and the other existing payment options will remain available, ensuring motorists have a convenient choice of ways to pay whether they are visiting the city for work, shopping or leisure.”

The Council advises motorists using car parks operated by private companies to check details of their payment methods before parking. There are also many other ways to travel into Hull, including by train, bus, or cycle.
