Hull City remain in talks with French outfit Auxerre over a move for midfielder Kevin Danois.
Danois is one of the club’s top midfield targets this summer, and one of two Ligue 1 players City are trying to push through deals for.
City’s initial bid in the region of 16m euros (£13.6m) was rebuffed, Hull Live understands, meaning the Tigers would need to break their transfer record to sign the 22-year-old, which they would be prepared to do.
The highly-rated French Under-21 international made 33 appearances in Ligue 1 last term, scoring three times and registering one assist, operating as an attack-minded midfielder who is also capable of playing out wide.

Hull Live understands the Tigers are prepared to push harder for the player, but it remains to be seen if that would be enough to tempt the French side into a sale of one of their talented academy graduates, who is thought to be considering his options.
Should a deal be agreed, it will almost certainly become a club record sale for Auxerre, whose current record stands at 20m euros (£14m based on 2004 rates). Liverpool paid for Djibril Cisse in 2004.
City’s biggest purchase was the deal that saw Ryan Mason arrive from Tottenham in 2016, with the Tigers paying £13.2m, but that record looks set to be surpassed at least once this summer as the Tigers prepare for life in the Premier League.
In other transfer news, there is no truth to reports linking the Tigers with a move for Senegal striker Bamba Dieng, while social media was set alight on Saturday when Ivor Pandur commented on Marco Pasalic’s Instagram post with a Tiger emoji. Hull Live understands there have been no developments with the club still considering making an offer. As it stands, no firm offer has yet been made.
