Peters will leave Hull KR at the end of the year – taking charge of PNG Chiefs from 2028.

Departing Hull KR coach Willie Peters is set to appoint another former Robin, Anthony Seibold, as one of his assistant coaches at PNG Chiefs.
Peters will lead the new Papua New Guinea-based NRL franchise into the competition for their inaugural 2028 season, with reports in Australia stating that a deal to appoint Seibold is in the works.
The 51-year-old, who played over 50 games for Rovers in the 2003 and 2004 Championship seasons, has over 150 games of NRL experience under his belt after stints at the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Brisbane Broncos, and Manly Sea Eagles.
He was dismissed from Manly at the start of the 2026 season after a poor start to the year but is seemingly set to link up with Peters at the Chiefs – at least according to the Daily Telegraph.
Peters will spend the 2027 season assembling his backroom staff for 2028 and ensuring that the football department is ready to go – already appointing Rovers back row forward Rhyse Martin to a post-playing ‘football operations manager’ role.
He will leave Hull KR at the end of the current campaign after four successful years in charge, winning the club’s first trophy in over 40 years with Challenge Cup success last season before going on to complete the treble with the Super League League Leaders Shield and Grand Final triumphs. He also won the World Club Challenge with victory over Brisbane this year.
Meanwhile, PNG Chiefs, led by general manager Michael Chammas, have also begun their recruitment drive for 2028. They have signed the likes of Alex Johnstone, Jerome Luai, and Connor Watson, not to mention St Helens prop Matty Lees.
