Mikey Lewis has put himself at risk of a ban that could have a huge impact on Hull KR’s Super League season.
The Robins were handed their third defeat in four games on Saturday as they were well-beaten by Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
KR were someway short of their best defensively and with the ball in hand they made mistake after mistake that handed the Warrington possession and field position on a plate.
No one associated with KR will be happy with their performance in Cheshire then and frustrations got the better of some in the game with Lewis seeing a yellow card late on for a needlessly late tackle on a Warrington man.
That meant Lewis watched the final nine minutes of the game from the sidelines as Warrington made the most of the numerical advantage to score a sixth try through Matty Ashton.
Unfortunately for KR, though, it seems Lewis could be handed more punishment by the Match Review Panel, who gave Peta Hiku a one-match ban last week for a very similar incident against Wakefield Trinity.
Lewis already has disciplinary points on his record and the late hit, which was reckless, could be deemed to be a similar Grade C offence.
That would rule him out of Thursday’s derby against Hull FC and given how desperately KR need the win, that comes as a big blow.
However, there’s a high chance that Lewis could be looking at an extended period in the stands for what appeared to be a headbutt on Adam Holroyd.
Continuing to tackle after the ball had left Holroyd’s grasps, Lewis then moved his head towards the Warrington man and made contact in a manner that could be construed as violent.
Whether the Match Review Panel see it that way remains to be seen but if they see enough evidence to hand out a sanction, Lewis could be facing an even bigger ban.
