East Hull Pools has been empty and unused since 2018

Planning approval has been granted for the conversion of East Hull Pools in Holderness Road, Hull, into 24 apartments. There will also be a gym, sauna and showers for residents created on the ground floor, and a car park with 26 spaces, off Field Street.

East Hull Pools has been empty and unused since 2018, when the council deemed it surplus to requirements after redevelopment of nearby Woodford Leisure Centre. It had first opened in 1898.

Plans were submitted back in 2023 to turn the building into a residential use. Hull Serviced Apartments Ltd was the original applicant, but it is JRL Holmes Ltd that has agreed an associated S106 agreement with Hull City Council.

The two companies share the same address and main director. The S106 agreement commits the developer to paying £21,600 towards affordable housing elsewhere in Hull and £17,850 towards open space.

12 mezzanine and three rooftop flats are to be where the main swimming pool was. Another eight mezzanine flats will be where the small swimming pool used to be, and first floor meeting and function rooms will be converted into a two-bed flat and management office.
