Kyle Joseph’s move to Middlesbrough hangs in the balance, with the real prospect the deal will now be put on hold to allow the player to progress his rehab from injury before it is completed. Hull Live understands negotiations are ongoing, but it is now regarded as unlikely the player will depart the Tigers this week, or in the immediate future.
Joseph had agreed terms on a £5m move from Hull City to the Riverside Stadium, with the switch expected to have been confirmed by now.
Joseph missed City’s play-off final win over Boro at Wembley in May having undergone surgery on his ankle after being hurt in a bad challenge in the second leg play-off semi-final win at Millwall. That was the second time he’d gone under the knife in less than 12 months, after seeing his opposite ankle operated on the summer before.
It’s understood the deal could now be put on ice for the time being, and revisited later in the summer. Boro are understood to still want Joseph, and are prepared to see how the situation develops over the next few weeks.
As it stands, the popular 24-year-old will continue his rehabilitation from ankle surgery with the Tigers, when they return to pre-season training on Monday week. Despite the deal being on the rocks, the delay will not have any impact on the club’s battle to stay within Financial Fair Play rules, after getting over the line on Tuesday night.
