Exclusive: Hull FC are set to land two more coaching appointments for the 2027 season.
Hull FC are set to land two more first-team coaching appointments in former Hull KR Strength and Conditioner Jimmy McDaniel and Leeds Rhinos physiotherapist Dave Ferguson.
McDaniel left the Robins at the end of last year and Hull Live understands he is now primed to join the Black and Whites coaching staff ahead of the 2027 season, leading the club’s pre-season programme as their new lead conditioner.
Deemed a big part of Hull KR’s recent success, McDaniel ‘led the physical preparation, performance development, and return-to-play processes’ at the Robins, spending close to six years at the East Hull outfit and as per their farewell statement, ‘played an integral part in the club’s performance programme going from strength to strength.’
McDaniel, who also has experience in rehabilitation, is currently working with the England Wheelchair team ahead of their trip Down Under for the Rugby League World Cup this autumn.
Meanwhile, Ferguson is a former physio at Hull and again, is expected to re-join the club ahead of pre-season training after a lengthy spell at Leeds Rhinos. He is set to work alongside Nathan Mill, with the current St Helens physiotherapist also joining the Black and Whites as a key figure in incoming head coach Steve McNamara’s backroom team.
Of course, hometown man McNamara has signed a four-year deal to return to Hull ahead of the 2027 season and has already completed a deal to bring Black and Whites legend Scott Taylor back to the club as an assistant coach, with current interim head coach Andy Last also expected to revert back to an assistant coach role next season.
Elsewhere, Hull are adding to the numbers in their backroom department in an attempt to give themselves every chance of maximising performance and, as per a recent statement from club co-owners Andrew Thirkill and David Hood, reduce injury totals as much as possible next year.
The club are also set to improve their facilities at the University of Hull, with the installation of grass pitches to go alongside their club hub, which was completed last year, with McNamara seemingly leaving no stone unturned in a bid to hit the ground running.
On the playing front, Leigh Leopards full-back Bailey Hodgson and Catalans Dragons hooker Alrix Da Costa have both signed for 2027, with more signings expected to follow.
