Beachgoers at Withernsea can now hire beach huts and enjoy an upgraded seafront after a redevelopment scheme funded through the Hull and East Yorkshire Devolution fund has been completed

Beachgoers at Withernsea are now able to hire their own beach huts making for a fun day by the coast, as the redevelopment scheme is now complete. The works offer a modern touch to this traditional seaside character town.
Alongside the new beach huts are an improved cycle path and micro-kiosks in Valley Gardens. East Riding of Yorkshire Council says the project is designed to “enhance the visitor experience while supporting local enterprise” and will blend the town’s seaside character with contemporary design.
Beachgoers can hire the new huts seasonally and the micro-kiosks are designed for traders and small businesses to have a taste of operating in a prime seafront spot. There are hopes the scheme will deliver increased tourism, job creation, and revenue for small businesses. The Council said it aims to “extend visitor stays and boost off-season activity by improving the overall appeal of the seafront”.
The council, together with Withernsea Town Council, has worked with many businesses and the wider community, using their input and expertise to deliver the project. The scheme was funded through the Hull and East Yorkshire Devolution in-year funds, as part of a package of coasted regeneration projects.
The works also include a refurbishment to the boat compound, to improve access safety and infrastructure. As part of the redevelopment, the seafront path also received substantial investment to improve the path for both pedestrians and cyclists along a popular seafront route and help to promote sustainable travel.
Councillor Anne Handley, East Riding of Yorkshire Council leader, said: “We’re proud to work with local communities to deliver investment across the region. It’s fantastic that this scheme has now completed and hope it will play a significant role in supporting local businesses, and the wider community, in the area.”

The seafront is at the heart of our town’s identity, and this development represents a major step forward in revitalising the area, supporting local businesses, and attracting visitors year-round. We would like to thank all involved in the delivery of the scheme, particularly our funders, the officers at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Northern Shores Marine Ltd, and the contractors who have worked hard to deliver this exciting project.”
