Former Hull City promotion winner Robert Snodgrass has praised the club’s recruitment last season and believes that if his old club can replicate it this summer, then they can make an impact in the Premier League.
Despite working under a transfer fee restriction last summer and again in January, which meant the club were unable to pay transfer or loan fees, they were able to complete some eye-catching deals.
Oli McBurnie arrived on a free transfer and scored the winning goal in the Championship play-off final at Wembley, as well as 18 other goals, while loanee Joe Gelhardt netted 15 times, including one in the semi-final win at Millwall.
The Tigers are now turning their attention to adding players they believe can provide Sergej Jakirovic with a squad capable of competing at Premier League level.
Snodgrass, who won promotion with City at Wembley in 2016, has little doubt that if the club get it right in the transfer market, they’ll have every chance.

“It’s brilliant,” Snodgrass told Hull Live via William Hill. “I am so pleased for everyone connected with the club. It’s obviously going to be so difficult to stay in the league; you can look at Sunderland as a team that got up through the play-off and survived.
“But you look at their recruitment, and it was something very special. If Hull City can look to create the right culture this off-season, bring in good British players and also some top European players, then they can look to compete well.”
Overlooked for the World Cup, McBurnie has been enjoying his summer of rest as he looks to come back and make his mark on the top flight, something Snodgrass feels will be to the Tigers’ advantage.
“I like Oli up front, he can be a handful for teams, they need to gel nice and quickly in the opening games in the Premier League and see what happens,” he added.
