Abdus Omur is set to be given a chance to impress Sergej Jakirovic when Hull City’s players return to pre-season next month, ahead of their Premier League campaign.
The creative playmaker has largely underwhelmed since arriving at City in January 2024 during Liam Rosenior’s tenure at the MKM Stadium, and has had various loan spells away from the club.
Omur ended last season with Antalyaspor, playing 25 times without scoring as the club finished third bottom and were relegated from the Super Lig, despite a final-day victory.
In the 2024/25 campaign, which saw the Tigers survive relegation on the final day of the season, Omur began proceedings at City and played 20 times before suffering from a knee injury, and was then moved to the Super Lig, joining Caykur Rizespor on loan in January, playing seven times before moving to Corendon Park for the duration of the campaign.

His last Tigers appearance was a 59-minute display in a 1-0 home loss to Middlesbrough on New Year’s Day 2025, but he could now feature again, having been unable to force through a permanent move back to Turkey. He’s under contract in East Yorkshire until next summer, with City holding a further 12-month option.
As planning steps up for the club’s return to the Premier League, it’s understood Sergej Jakirovic is prepared to give Omur a chance in pre-season to prove himself capable.
Jakirovic is understood to be keen to offer an olive branch to the 26-year-old, who turns 27 on Thursday, in the same way he did with Ryan Giles 12 months ago, and believes he could generate an improvement in Omur.
The City boss sparked a stunning turnaround from Giles, while also improving Kyle Joseph’s scoring output, and generally being able to extract the maximum from his squad, which ultimately defied all the odds to win promotion last month.
City’s players are set to return to pre-season training at Cottingham on July 13, before heading off on a 12-day training camp to Slovenia and then Turkey, before returning to England for their final flurry of domestic friendlies ahead of the Premier League’s big kick-off on August 22 with the visit of Manchester United to the MKM Stadium.
