The former Black and Whites boss is out winning trophies again.
Former Hull FC coach Lee Radford has had a highly successful spell at Northampton Saints.
Former Hull FC head coach Lee Radford signed off as a Premiership winner with Northampton Saints on Saturday afternoon before heading off to coach the Scotland Rugby Union side full-time.
Radford has been a prominent defence coach in rugby union in recent years, a role he will continue up in Scotland after originally doing it part-time. He joined Northampton ahead of the 2023/24 season and has now been part of two successful Premiership wins – the first coming two years ago in his first season at the club.
The Saints, League Leaders after the regular season, defeated Exeter Chiefs 26-17 in the Prem Grand Final at Twickenham on Saturday afternoon.
Paying tribute to Radford’s part in victory, Northampton director of rugby Phil Dowson said: “Credit to Lee Radford: we said this was his last game in charge of the ‘D’ and we wanted to represent that.
“People talk all the time about defence winning championships, they [Exeter] statistically had the best defence in the league throughout the year. But I think our defence has been excellent as well and it really stood up well at the end there and gave us the opportunity to see out the game.”
Radford became a legend at Hull FC after winning back-to-back Challenge Cups in 2016 and 2017. He first appeared for the Black and Whites as a player in 1996 and played two stints for the club either side of a spell at Bradford Bulls, where he won every honour in the game.
As a coach, he also had a spell at Castleford Tigers – his last in rugby league – with the Hull-born mastermind parting ways with the West Yorkshire club in 2023. He has been in rugby union ever since.
