Almost 50 e-scooters and bikes being used illegally were seized during a two-week operation in the Humberside force area

Humberside Police say they have a message for anyone considering buying an e-scooter or illegal e-bike to use on public roads – “don’t”. The force’s Roads Policing Team has been supporting a national campaign this month to crack down on the illegal use of motorcycles, off-road bikes and e-scooters.

A total of 46 e-scooters and bikes being used illegally and were not road legal were seized in the Humber region during the two-week operation earlier this month. Meanwhile, numerous vehicle stops were carried out, traffic offence reports were issued and riders were provided with education and advice.

Police say, though tackling concerns regarding the use of e-scooters and illegal bikes on public roads is part of their daily activity, the force will continue to get involved in dedicated enforcement campaigns to “demonstrate our commitment to keeping our roads safe”.

Inspector Neil Hutchins, from the Roads Policing Unit, said: “I am extremely pleased with the results achieved during the last two weeks of action. We know there is still more work to do, and we will continue to take action against any vehicle that poses a risk to road users and the wider community.

“My message to anyone considering purchasing an e-scooter or illegal e-bike for use on public roads is simple – don’t. If a vehicle is being used unlawfully, we will take action and seize it where appropriate.”

Anyone experiencing issues with illegal bikes, dangerous riding, or anti-social use of scooters and motorcycles in their area, is being urged to report it to police. The force says information provided by the public helps identify hotspots, target offenders and keep communities safe.
