Hull City’s new home strip went on sale on Friday morning, with fans flocking to the MKM Stadium and St Stephen’s to get their hands on the kit the Tigers will be wearing in the Premier League.

City got tongues wagging with the bold design that sees the club return to the iconic HCAFC lettering that adorned the club’s Black and Amber strip in the late seventies.

It was also the first design revealed by Oxen Sports, the growing brand that was born in the city’s fruit market and has gone on to become one of the leading manufacturers in rugby league, whilst working with a host of clubs in the Premier League away from the media glare.

Launched just seven years ago, Oxen have enjoyed a bumper few weeks in football with City winning promotion to the Premier League, and Lincoln City, who also have a deal with the brand, romping to League One glory and securing a place in the Championship.

Lee Jenkinson, chief executive at Oxen, a former season ticket holder at the MKM Stadium and avid Tigers fan, was the guest on the 1904 Club podcast to discuss how the deal came about, and what fans can expect from the firm as they work closely on a host of bespoke designs that tell City’s proud story.

“It’s why we started this business 10 years ago,” he said. “These are the sorts of things we wanted to be a part of. I take an immense sense of pride from it. I’m a proud resident of Hull; I’ve lived here all my life. I’m immensely proud of the city. I’m fortunate in the role that I do now; I get to travel the world and take great pride in telling people I’m from Hull.

“When the club gained promotion to the Premier League, it was a euphoric moment, and given we’ve been having these conversations with the club for the best part of 12 months, to first see promotion and then the announcement was a fantastic feeling, and a fantastic feeling for the brand as well.

“We’ve been around for seven years. It’s not a long time in comparison with some of the rivals that we have to go toe-to-toe with for these sorts of partnerships, so to say that we’ve been able to secure not only my hometown club that I followed as a child, but seeing them in the Premier League does now fill you with immense pride.”
