The latest on Hull KR’s fitness after Wembley.
Mikey Lewis suffered a knock at Wembley during the Challenge Cup final.
Willie Peters has confirmed that Mikey Lewis has overcome the injury he picked up in the Challenge Cup final at Wembley and has been cleared to feature against Wakefield Trinity in Super League.
The 24-year-old was clearly hampered by a foot injury sustained in the first half following a legal challenge from Wigan captain Liam Farrell. Lewis battled on after treatment, but the England international was unable to inspire his side as Hull KR fell to a heavy 40-10 defeat to the Warriors.
Karl Lawton also remains in contention after being named 18th man for Saturday’s final in the capital. Jai Whitbread, meanwhile, is still awaiting the arrival of his first child after staying at home with his partner during the Challenge Cup showpiece.
“Karl Lawton is good. Mikey Lewis is okay, he got through training today,” Peters said.
On Whitbread, he added: “Hopefully soon, but no baby has arrived at this stage. It depends on when the baby’s born, but he’ll be next door instead of a few hours down the road in London. Jai lives over that way [near Wakefield], so it’s all dependent on when the baby’s born.”
New signing Tevita Pangai Junior has also been handed a chance of making his Hull KR debut at the DIY Kitchens Stadium on Saturday.
The 30-year-old prop travelled to London last week but did not feature, though he was spotted going through fitness drills during the captain’s run on Friday.
“We’ll name Tevita this week, we’ll just wait to see if he’s ready to go,” Peters confirmed.
“We’ll make a call later in the week. He had a bit of a calf issue, so we need to see whether he’ll be ready this week, or possibly next.”
Peters also paid tribute to forward Jack Brown, who has left Sewell Group Craven Park to join Castleford Tigers on a deal running until the end of 2028. He featured from the interchange bench under the famous Wembley arch.
“There was a bit of a process,” Peters explained. “Jack had signed with Castleford for next year, and he wasn’t sort of playing regularly and was looking to move earlier, and we needed to make sure that we got someone in.
“Jack has been great for us, and he’ll be missed. He’s a great team-mate, and the type of player that never lets you down.”
