Undefeated Hull boxer Ted Jackson has title fights in his sights as he prepares to take the next step in his career.
Jackson is fresh off a knockout win over Mike Byles at the Eco-Power Stadium in Doncaster, with the middleweight fighting on the undercard of the high profile clash between Dave Allen vs Filip Hrgovic last month.
The 24-year-old knocked Byles down before the referee stepped in to end the fight and give Jackson his second stoppage and seventh win, maintaining his 100 per cent record in the professional ranks.
Momentum is firmly on Jackson’s side then and he’s looking to be out for a third time this calendar year before the end of summer. And, if he can build on that form, title fights will be an inevitability with the Central Area and English titles in his crosshairs.
“I think we’ll have a break because we’ve just had two back to back fights, so I want to be back out towards the end of summer, August or September,” Jackson told Hull Live.
“An Area title soon and an English title within a year or something, but it depends, I’ll just leave it to my coach and manager and they’ll guide me at the pace I need to be at.
“I just want to make a bit of a name for myself and then hopefully get a contract with one of them (Queensbury or Matchroom). The gym that I’m in hopefully makes it a bit easier doing that because they’re all signed up already and we’re all pushing each other.”
“I’m in with Jack Rafferty, Tom Rafferty, Zak Miller. Jack and Zak have been British and Commonwealth champions as well, you can’t beat being around those sort of fighters. Iron sharpens iron, as they say. Jack and Zack are signed with Queensbury and Tom is signed with Matchroom, so I’m the only one left that isn’t with a big promoter.”
Jackson might still be waiting to catch the eye of Eddie Hearn or Frank Warren, but it’s fair to say he has had plenty of attention from his beloved Hull City and members of the first-team squad, with players making a habit of attending his fights.
“Ryan Giles came to my last one, McBurnie has been to my fights before,” Jackson added. “I’ve had good support from them, a few of them are quite into their boxing. It gives them something different to do on a weekend.
“I’m a big City fan myself. They’ve invited me down a couple of times, they’ve had me on the pitch a couple of times and the club is right behind me. That’s a childhood dream ticked off.”
