Hull KR have signed young Hull FC centre Ryan Westerman. Hull Live understands that the Robins have completed an immediate deal to acquire the outside back, with the player, who will join his new club this week, agreeing to a contract until the end of next year.
Still only 20 years old, Westerman was under contract at Hull for the 2027 season. However, the Black and Whites have allowed Rovers, who first enquired about the FC academy product two years ago, to make a move for the player.
Westerman debuted in Super League for Hull in the final game of the 2024 season against Catalans Dragons. He then played the Challenge Cup tie against York Acorn in 2025, kicking eight goals in a 52-6 victory.
Unfortunately, some injury issues surrounding his ankle and foot have limited further first-team appearances, with the back instead playing in the reserves as recently as May 23. However, the player will now look to kick on again in East Hull, linking up with the Robins’ Head of Youth Pete Riding – a man he knows well from his time at Hull and who could unlock the potential he has showed while in the FC system.
Of course, Westerman follows on from recent Hull players who swapped the Black and White for the Red and White. Jack Charles and Cobie Wainhouse made west-to-east moves last year, while Jack Brown was involved in a swap deal with Yusuf Aydin back in 2024.
Westerman also fits in with Rovers’ current recruitment model, with the club making a habit of signing young players from other Super League clubs. They have also been linked with Warrington academy player Flynn Holden, as reported by Hull Live on Monday afternoon.
