The Tigers are understandably among the favourites to go down

Hull City have made a welcome habit of proving us all wrong. Written off at the start of last year, with only the very bravest of Tigers’ supporters backing the club for promotion, Sergej Jakirovic’s made a mockery of all the predictions, the XG brigade and all those who questioned who was this new manager parachuted in to a club that looked set for a campaign of struggles.

Amid a backdrop of a transfer embargo and uncertainty, the manager, his staff and players came together to form the type of spirit and bond that can take teams far. How far? Well, as far as the Premier League it appears.

Now, as City prepare for being back in the top flight, the club’s chances of survival are already being written off. It’s not really a surprise, and probably shouldn’t be taken with any sort of disgruntlement. While this season Leeds United and Sunderland have shown staying up is possible, the two have gone against recent form in breaking the mould of team heading straight back down.

According to the data and those pesky Supercomputers we hear so much about, the numbers suggest City are heading for the drop next season. Not as the bottom club, however, with the Tigers predicted to finish in 18th place above fellow promoted sides Coventry City and Ipswich Town.

BettingLounge have booted up their newly-minted supercomputer model for the 2026/27 season to predict how next season will go and this is what it tells us. Arsenal will retain their title, with an eight-point lead over Enzo Maresca’s Manchester City. Liverpool are set to rebound under Arne Slot to finish third ahead of Manchester United.

Xabi Alonso and Roberto De Zerbi are set to enjoy transformative seasons for Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur after their struggles this season, while City will reach 33 points but it won’t be enough to save them from the drop.

It is of course far too early to make any predictions on anything and we’ve no idea what the squad will look like yet. But regardless of that, we know one thing, the Tigers will have to do it against all expectations from outside the city next season. Good job they’ve done it before!

How the predicted table looks.
