Area’s first open gardens event will benefit Dove House Hospice
Hull’s leafy Garden Village will come alive this summer as it hosts its very first open gardens event. On Saturday, June 13, a vibrant celebration of community and creativity will be staged and the beauty of one of the area’s most charming historic neighbourhoods can be appreciated.
For one special day, visitors are invited to explore 11 unique private gardens, each offering its own character, planting style and inspiration. From peaceful retreats to colourful floral displays, the event promises something for seasoned gardeners, families, and curious visitors alike.
Among the highlights, attendees will have the rare opportunity to visit gardens at Dove House Hospice and Holderness House, adding a meaningful and historic dimension to the day. Visitors to Dove House will also be able to explore its beautiful memory garden and enjoy the onsite café The Kitchen.
Adding a touch of magic, the event will also feature six enchanting fairy trails, dotted throughout the village. These imaginative displays can be viewed from the front gates or hedges of participating homes, offering a delightful experience for children and families. Please note that fairy trail gardens are not open for entry, but visitors are warmly encouraged to enjoy the displays from outside the gates.
Tickets will be available to purchase on the day from:
- The Dove House onsite shop, Chamberlain Road
- The Dove House shop, Holderness Road
- Holderness House
- The Garden Village Club House
- Nine of the participating open gardens
- Fairy trail locations will not be selling tickets
This inaugural event marks a significant moment for Garden Village, showcasing not only its rich heritage but also the pride and passion of its residents. Visitors can expect a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, with opportunities to meet garden owners, exchange ideas, and gather inspiration for their own outdoor spaces.

Tiffany, community fundraiser at Dove House Hospice, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to bring you another open gardens event this June, and this year is extra special as Garden Village opens its gardens for the very first time. Alongside this, visitors can explore our own beautiful memory garden and enjoy our onsite café, The Kitchen.
“It’s always so heartwarming to see the community come together in support of the hospice, while celebrating the creativity and dedication of our incredible local gardeners. We’re truly grateful to everyone who opens their gardens.
“Your generosity helps us continue providing vital care and support to local patients and their loved ones. This event is a perfect family day out, with something for everyone to enjoy.
“Many gardens will offer lovely extras such as plant sales and refreshments, and we’re especially pleased to welcome families. Children under 16 go free, making it an accessible and enjoyable day for all.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to spend quality time together while supporting a cause that makes a real difference in our community.” The open gardens will run from noon to 4pm. Tickets are available from Monday, May 28, at the Dove House Chamberlain Road and Holderness Road shops and then on the day from the Dove House memory garden, Holderness House and the participating gardens.
