Herman Ese’ese is closing in on his Hull FC comeback.

Hull FC have named Herman Ese’ese in their 21-man squad ahead of Friday’s Super League game against Leigh Leopards.

The prop has been out with an Achilles rupture since last August, but after returning to training for the last several weeks, is declared fit enough to be included in the squad.

Ese’ese is one of five changes to the squad. He is joined by Hugo Salabio, who has been recalled from a recent loan spell in the Championship with Halifax Panthers. Elsewhere, 2026 recruit Joe Phillips, who could be in line for his Hull first-team debut, is named. Ben Johnson and Lennon Clark also come into the squad.

Dropping out are Ligi Sao, who picked up a shoulder injury in the dying embers of Sunday’s defeat at Bradford Bulls, and Lewis Martin, who finished the game, but suffered a knock to his ankle.

The Black and Whites were already set to be without Brad Fash, who picked up an MCL injury at Bradford Bulls last week, and Amir Bourouh, who failed his HIA and is therefore automatically ruled out of the Leopards clash.

Yusuf Aydin also drops out after picking up a six-game suspension. The forward will miss games against Leigh, Warrington Wolves, Huddersfield Giants, Wakefield Trinity, Wigan Warriors, and Hull KR. He will be available again for the York Knights game on July 9.
