RFL comment after Wigan Warriors squad selection for Challenge Cup dress rehearsal.

The Rugby Football League has confirmed that Wigan Warriors have not breached any operational rules following the club’s squad selection to face Hull KR in Super League.

Matt Peet has made 10 changes for Thursday’s Round 12 clash at Sewell Group Craven Park in what serves as a dress rehearsal for the Challenge Cup final, with the two sides set to meet again at Wembley on Saturday, May 30.

First-team stars Jai Field, Adam Keighran, Jake Wardle, Harry Smith, Ethan Havard, Brad O’Neill, Luke Thompson, Kaide Ellis, Sam Walters and Oliver Partington have all dropped out of the squad.

They have been replaced by youngsters Nathan Lowe, George O’Loughlin, Finlay Yeomans, Finn McMillan, Josh Cartwright, Austin Daniel, Charlie Yeomans, Lewis Daniels, Shea O’Connor and Kalum Rathbone – with as many as 10 players in line to make their potential debuts.

However, the RFL has confirmed to Hull Live that no rules have been breached.

A statement said: “As part of the squad declaration process, the RFL made enquiries with Wigan Warriors about the squad selected. Given the club’s response and evidence, the RFL are satisfied that there is no breach of the Operational Rules.”

Salford were deducted two competition points last year after breaching several RFL operational rules relating to team selection for their opening-round clash against St Helens amid the club’s financial difficulties.

Thursday’s clash in East Hull will be the first between Hull KR and Wigan Warriors since the 2025 Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford.
