The Robins will take on Wigan Warriors at Wembley
Jamie Peacock expects a ‘high calibre’ Challenge Cup final as Hull KR prepare to face off against Wigan Warriors at Wembley later this month.
Rovers booked their spot in the final on Sunday by seeing off Warrington Wolves with relative ease at the Eco-Power Stadium, winning 32-12. Joe Burgess and James Batchelor both scored braces on the day for the Robins while Oliver Gildart also got over in the Doncaster sunshine.
That win ensured Rovers will travel to London on May 30 to take on Wigan, who cruised to a 32-0 win in their semi-final against St Helens on Saturday afternoon.
The clash is a repeat of the last two Super League Grand Finals and despite the two sides sitting in fourth and fifth in the league table, it is widely recognised that KR and Wigan are the top two teams the Northern Hemisphere has to offer right now.
That’s a salivating proposition for Peacock, who believes the KR squad will have the added drive of wanting to send the departing Willie Peters out in the right way.
“It’s an extra level of motivation to tap into,” Peacock told the BBC. “I don’t think Willie will do that but I think the players will probably speak about that.
“I’m just excited about the quality of game that’s going to get delivered because you have two sides that are very committed, very passionate and they’re both really connected with the community, but they’re really good with the detail, with the ball and with the defence.
“I feel like we’re going to be in for a really high calibre final.
“They’re the defenders of everything at the moment, but Wigan like to be in that position and they like to be the champions. It’s going to be exciting.”
