Mikey Lewis scored four tries on Saturday afternoon at Odsal
Willie Peters believes Mikey Lewis is ‘on top’ of his game right now following his four-try showing for Hull KR against Bradford Bulls on Saturday.
Lewis scored twice in both halves to help Rovers secure their fifth win in all competitions and push them into the Super League play-off picture for the first time this season.
The England international was everywhere on the day, pulling the strings and making things happen for the Robins, who won 48-12 in the West Yorkshire sunshine.
And, his tries ensured he was the man to grab the headlines on the day, with the stand-off coming in for some big praise from his head coach after the game.
“He was outstanding,” Peters said. “He was the major difference today, that’s for sure. Bradford were very good, they didn’t start that well but once they got in the game, I thought it was a pretty even contest and the difference was Mikey.
“He owned some big moments in that game and he has certainly found his feet in 2026 now and I think he’s on top of his game.
“It starts with his kicking, it starts with his defence, his tackling, and all that kind of stuff we know what he’s capable of so it was pleasing to see him have a nice day out today.”
It didn’t go unnoticed that Lewis’ best performance of the season so far came in the week a new England head coach was appointed with Brian McDermott speaking openly about George Williams and Jake Connor being in his thoughts ahead of the World Cup this autumn.
“I’m sure Brian McDermott knows what Mikey is capable of,” Peters added. “The key for Mikey is just to keep doing that and keep owning those big moments.
“He did it in last year’s Grand Final, he’s done it again today, he’s done it a number of times, the more he can do that because World Cup games and those type of games will come down to moments a lot of the time, especially when you progress into the semi-finals and finals.
“For me, you find he’s the difference in those major games. It’s the forwards throughout the year a lot of the time but in the big games, your spine are usually the ones who get man of the match and they have the medals around their necks and he had it around his neck today and deservedly so.
“The key for him is just being in the game. It doesn’t matter if he’s not making a line break or scoring tries; eventually, something will happen.”
