Hull KR claimed a 48-12 win over Bradford Bulls on Saturday afternoon

Willie Peters was pleased with 60 minutes of his Hull KR side’s performance at Bradford Bulls after winning 48-12.

The Robins scored eight tries on the day, with four coming in the first 16 minutes of the game as Mikey Lewis scored twice and Tyrone May and Rhyse Martin touched down. However, for an unknown reason, the Robins went away from what had been working for them and Bradford found a foothold in the game.

They scored two tries during that period before Rovers rallied after the break and touched down four more times, with Lewis taking his tally to four for the day, while Jack Broadbent and Peta Hiku also got over.

Ultimately, that was enough to secure a fifth straight win in all competitions and push Rovers into the Super League spots for the first time this season.

And, while Peters was delighted to pick up the two points, he wasn’t completely thrilled with his side’s performance.

“I am, but I wasn’t happy with that last 20 minutes of the first half, I think we went away from what we were doing well,” Peters said after the game when asked if he was happy. “There was a plan there and we started to try and force things.

“That gave Bradford energy, they got the crowd involved and they came hard. Full credit to them , they’re going through a lot of adversity of injuries but they kept coming. We had to regroup at half-time because it could have gone either way.

“We could have did what we did in the second half or we could have gone to that 20 minutes in the first half, so I’m happy with that.

“There was a lot of energy about us. It’s a smaller field so we had to change things and put a plan in place and I thought they executed that really well. It was simple but really effective in that first 20 minutes and that’s why I suppose the next 20 was disappointing because we tried to make things up a little bit with a couple of offloads that didn’t work.”

Asked if he had stern words at the break with his side, he added: “There was some honest words, we put ourselves in that situation. Bradford didn’t go away, but it was more we forced things. We were just honest, the group is honest, our senior players are honest and we talk about it, find a solution and move on and hopefully get what we get in the second half. We’re an honest group.”
