A tanker driver from Hull-based family business Rix Petroleum has been named Driver Of The Year at a prestigious awards ceremony. Ian Walters, who is based at the company’s Hull depot, secured the Driver of the Year 2026 title at the UK and Ireland Fuel Distributors Association (UKIFDA) Expo & Conference.
The accolade – sponsored by OAMPS Hazardous Industries – celebrates exceptional tanker drivers from across the sector who display remarkable professionalism, safety standards, and customer service. Ian, who also delivers driver training for Rix Petroleum, was honoured for his exemplary performance behind the wheel, his work coaching fellow drivers, championing training programmes, and setting an example that upholds the highest safety and professional standards.
Duncan Lambert, managing director of Rix Petroleum, commended Ian’s contribution to the firm and his commitment to his colleagues. He said: “Winning this award is fantastic recognition for Ian. It reflects the hard work and commitment he brings to his role every day, as well as his professionalism which is an inspiration to others across the company. However, we also believe it is a reflection of the high standards Rix Petroleum expects and adheres to in everything we do.

Responding to the victory, Ian said he was ‘blown away’. He said: “I can’t quite believe I have won this award and I’m incredibly grateful to the colleagues who put me forward for it.
“Throughout my career, I’ve always tried to do things in the right way and to help others to do the same, but I never expected that to be recognised at a national level. It’s a very proud achievement for me.”
