The half-back has been allowed to leave Widnes Vikings on loan

Ex-Hull FC and Hull KR half-back Jordan Abdull has made the switch to Sheffield Eagles on loan.

Abdull has joined the South Yorkshire outfit on an initial one-month loan deal from Widnes Vikings after struggling for minutes in recent weeks.

The Hull-born playmaker has made nine appearances for the Vikings this season, but just one of those outings has come since March 8, with Abdull being overlooked by head coach Allan Coleman.

As such, he has been allowed to link up with the Eagles on loan and he’ll be motivated to catch the eye this weekend when Craig Lingard’s side face Salford RLFC in the Championship.

The loan does include a recall clause that can be activated after a week, but the 30-year-old will surely be keen to stay with the Eagles for the full duration of his loan and get some much needed minutes under his belt.

Sheffield are currently eighth in the Championship table, a place and two points below Widnes after winning five and losing three of their opening eight league games.

They’re well positioned for a push towards the top and the Eagles will be keen to see Abdull help them build a real head of steam moving forward.

After a season out of the game, the season started relatively well for Abdull with the half-back playing a key role in Widnes’ big wins over Thatto Heath Crusaders and North Wales Crusaders.

And, although he has been in and out of the side, Widnes haven’t lost a league game with Abdull in the side since the opening contest of the season against London Broncos.

He started his career with Hull FC and made 54 appearances for the club before moving on to join London Broncos, where he really made his name.

Stints at KR and Catalans Dragons have followed and his form with the latter saw him called up into the England squad back in 2021.
