Tommy Coyle is celebrating the launch of his new Padel club in Hessle
Tommy Coyle is ready to unveil his latest venture as the former boxer doubles down on his plan to aid the physical and mental wellbeing of Hull and the surrounding area. The retired Commonwealth champion has invested £750,000 in a new Padel centre and renovation of his campus at the Bridgehead business park in the shadow of the Humber Bridge.
With Padel one of the fastest growing sports in the world, Coyle has set up his own TC60 Padel centre opposite his gym in Hessle, with three covered championship-standard courts sitting alongside a new bar and recreation area.
The new campus will officially be opened this Sunday, April 19, with Coyle throwing a typical free party with music and drinks, with all comers welcome.
“We’re opening our doors for the first time with an official launch party and I’m hoping to see plenty come down to join us,” said Coyle. “We’ve got four world championship standard players coming down to play a 90 minute exhibition. We’ll open the court up for those who have booked tickets too for them to have a sample of these courts and see what the fuss is about.
“We’ve teamed up with the Triton Inn who are bringing their big outdoor teepee and we’ve Ben Rainey doing a DJ set and a saxophonist and drummer, and it’s going to be a big party atmosphere with a bar. We start at 2pm, the exhibition is from 3:30pm, and we’ve complimentary champagne, and strawberries and cream, plus a full bar.”
Padel has taken over many parts of the world in recent years as the fastest growing sport, with over 500 clubs having sprung up across the UK in recent years. It’ a form of tennis, with elements of squash and real tennis, with the sport usually played with two pairs of doubles partners and seen as a new social experience.
“Padel is perfect for everyone, it is so accessible and anyone of any physical level can play and enjoy the sport,” adds Coyle. “What we’re trying to do is dial into the social aspect also, to give a venue for people to hang out with their mates, play some sport, have a beer and a chat afterwards, that’s right up my street and I think many others too.
“With the gym on site too, we’re trying to create a destination where you can work out, hang out, play sport and have a good time. We want a cool open destination for anyone to come along to.”
No membership will be needed to play at TC60 Padel, with the three courts hired out on a pay as you play basis with prices to be between £34-£40 for an hour’s hire of the court, or £8.50-£10 per person for a group of four people. Courts will be available to book online and through an app.
