The Government has announced 80 locations set to get a new Youth Hub
Young people in Hull are to benefit from greater employment support at a new Youth Hub. The Hubs bring together the likes of employers and training providers to help those aged between 16-24 into work.
Hull has been named as one of 80 locations set to get new Hubs. The Hubs provide a space for Jobcentre Plus, local authority services, employers and training providers to support young people, all under one roof.
Every Youth Hub will meet a set of minimum standards. This seeks to ensure that young people can access on-site Jobcentre support alongside mental health and housing support, skills and training opportunities, careers guidance and direct connections to employers with job and apprenticeship opportunities.
This announced expansion is seen as a step towards having a Youth Hub in every part of Great Britain. Within three years, the Hubs are set to be in over 360 areas.
The Government’s Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden has celebrated the expansion. He said: “Today marks a major boost for young people with 80 new Youth Hubs.
“We are delivering support in every region, connecting young people with employers, and meeting them where they are so they can move into work, as we reform the welfare state into a working state. This is about breaking down barriers, opening doors and ensuring every young person can earn or learn, wherever they live.”

Nine of the 80 new Hubs have already opened, including at sites in Nottingham and Newcastle. The exact location of the Hull Hub has not yet been revealed.
The announced Youth Hub expansion is part of a wider £2.5 billion investment in the Youth Guarantee and changes to the Growth and Skills Levy to prioritise young apprentices. The Government says that together this is set to create 200,000 jobs and apprenticeship opportunities.
