The Tigers notched up a tenth home league win against the struggling Owls
Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen admitted Hull City’s three goals came at key times in the game, and proved too much for his already relegated Owls side, as they were beaten 3-1 in East Yorkshire.
City were caught out 23 minutes in when Jamal Lowe prodded in after some unconvincing defending, but that lead lasted a total of 94 seconds before Matt Crooks levelled.
Deep into added time at the end of the first half, Paddy McNair’s devilish free-kick was headed into his own net by Dominic Iorfa under pressure from Oli McBurnie, and Kyle Joseph put the game to bed just before the hour, after a good spell from the visitors.

In truth, promotion-chasing City should have added more to their tally with McBurnie missing a good chance and Mo Belloumi seeing an effort cannon back off the post.
The Owls, who have now claimed just one point in their last 48 and remain without a win in their past 33 league games dating back to September, stuck at their task and that pleased Pedersen.
“We spoke before the game and said that when we score or concede, for the next four or five minutes we need to do things simple to stay compact and get back in the game,” the Dane said.
“There were some key times for us. We scored but conceded right away, then we conceded right before half time, then conceded the third when we were on top of the game.
“I think we played a strong first half. We know Hull are one of the most intensive teams in the league and one of the best on the counter.
“One of the reasons they are in the top six is that they are so strong in transition and high on the press – I think we handled that in a good way. We want to play with risks, but at the same time we had to think about defending against Hull in transition.
“We were strong defensively and we went one nil up but it was too short. The boys did everything again. We all support and help each other, and they are coming in every day with top motivation.”
