A fresh injury at Hull KR.
Hull KR have been dealt a fresh injury blow following their progression in the Challenge Cup.
The Robins continued their title defence with an commanding 52-12 victory over Huddersfield Giants at the Accu Stadium, running in nine tries and never looking in trouble against Luke Robinson’s injury-hit side.
However, the win has come at a cost. Rhyse Martin suffered a broken foot during the fourth round contest and is now set to miss the next month of action.
The Papua New Guinea international started in the back-row against Huddersfield in what marked his 200th career appearance – earning praise from head coach Willie Peters. He also kicked eight goals from nine attempts in the one-sided tie, helping secure Hull KR’s place in the quarter-finals.
He joins full-backs Arthur Mourgue and Dec Murphy on the sidelines, while influential back-rower James Batchelor missed the victory over the Giants with a minor injury, allowing new signing Tom Whitehead to seize his opportunity. The forward marked his first start for the club with a try.
Super League action returns this week, with the reigning champions travelling to face Catalans Dragons. Willie Peters’ side are set to fly out to the south of France on Wednesday ahead of Saturday’s clash in Perpignan against Joel Tomkins’ men.
Meanwhile, Rovers will have the chance for revenge against York Knights in the next stage of the Challenge Cup competition.
Hull KR were stunned 19-18 by the Super League newcomers on the opening night in February, with Mark Applegarth’s York side producing one of the biggest shocks in recent years at the LNER Community Stadium.
