The latest after the Huddersfield prop was on the end of a cannonball tackle against Hull KR.
Matty English has avoided a dreaded ACL injury after being on the end of a cannonball tackle against Hull KR, but the Huddersfield Giants prop is still set for an extended spell on the sidelines.
The 28-year-old was forced from the field at the Accu Stadium during the Super League clash with the Robins following a dangerous tackle from opposition forward Karl Lawton. The Hull KR utility was sent to the sin-bin and has since been handed a three-match ban for a Grade E charge by the match review panel.
Scans have revealed that English has avoided ACL damage but has suffered an MCL injury, meaning he is expected to miss the next few months of action for Luke Robinson’s side.
The Giants have been hit by an injury nightmare, with 15 players currently unavailable ahead of this weekend’s Challenge Cup fourth-round tie with title holders Hull KR. Tanguy Zenon is also cup-tied.
Full-back George Flanagan, meanwhile, has suffered a syndesmosis injury and is also set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The rising star sustained the blow while scoring his side’s only try in Sunday’s 32-6 defeat to Rovers.
“George has syndesmosis, so he’ll be out for the next few months,” head coach Robinson revealed to BBC Leeds.
“Matty English was obviously on the end of a cannonball to his knee and there were fears it was going to be his ACL.
“He’s been fortunate that it’s his MCL. We got the news this week that he won’t be out as long as originally feared. If there’s a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel, that was probably it for him.
“It’s still going to be two to three months timescale.”
