Confirmation of allocations for September 2026 is expected today
Parents and carers of Year 6 children across the East Riding will today (Monday, March 2) be receiving confirmation of the secondary school their child has been allocated for September. This year, 96.9 per cent of pupils have been allocated their first preference, and 99 per cent of families have received an offer for one of their three preferred schools.
East Riding Council received 3,317 applications for secondary school places. Of these, 3,215 pupils were allocated their first preference, and 3,285 pupils secured a place at one of their top three preferred schools.
Cllr Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education, said: “I am really pleased that 96.9 per cent of pupils have been offered places at their chosen school. We work hard to ensure as many children as possible receive their preferred schools.”
Eight of the 18 East Riding secondary schools have filled all available places – Beverley Grammar School, Beverley High School, Goole Academy, Headlands School, Hessle High School, South Hunsley School, The Market Weighton School and The Snaith School.
A small number of children, 32 in total, could not be allocated a place at their preferred schools. Of these, 29 have been offered a place at their catchment-area school, while three pupils have been allocated a place at their nearest East Riding school with an available space.

There has been an increase in the number of applications received this year, reflecting a larger cohort moving into secondary education compared to last year. Almost all families, 99 per cent, applied online, with on-time applications ensuring greater certainty for pupils, parents and carers, and enabling schools to effectively plan transition arrangements for September.
All families are expected to receive email notification of their child’s allocated school place by 4pm today. Hull families were also expected to have confirmation of allocations of secondary school places sent to them today.
Parents and carers had until October 31, 2025 to express up to three preferences.
