The ex-MKM Stadium boss has lost his job for the third time in less than 12 months
Ruben Selles has been sacked by struggling Spanish side Real Zaragoza in what is another crushing blow to his management career.
The former Hull City manager, who guided the Tigers to Championship safety on the final day of last season, before being dismissed by owner Acun Ilicali, had only been at the Ibercaja Stadium for five months, having arrived in October on an initial deal to the end of the current campaign.
In that period of time in his homeland, Spaniard Selles only managed five wins in 21 games and failed to arrest their alarming slump in form, which has left them rooted to the foot of Spain’s second division, with just one win in their last 12 games and eight points from safety.
Zaragoza, who face Cadiz on Friday night, issued a 53-word statement to confirm that Selles and sporting director Txema Indias had been dismissed with immediate effect, with David Navarro taking charge until a successor is appointed.

“Real Zaragoza announces the termination of its contractual relationship with sporting director Txema Indias and coach Ruben Selles,” the club said.
“The club thanks Txema Indias and Ruben Selles for their professionalism, dedication, and hard work during their time with the club and wishes them the best of luck in their future endeavours.”
It’s the third time in less than a year that the 42-year-old has been sacked. After being given his marching orders by City in May, he was then handed the top job at Sheffield United following Chris Wilder’s sacking after their Wembley play-off final defeat to Sunderland.
Following a dismal start to the Championship campaign, Selles was sacked by the Blades after failing to win a game during his three-month stint and replaced by Wilder.
