Two people were “rearrested on suspicion of the preparation of terrorist acts”
Counter terrorism police continue to question two suspects arrested in Hull on Thursday and revealed they were “white British and white Polish”.
The man and woman, both aged 23, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. Today, they have been rearrested on suspicion of the preparation of terrorist acts, with Counter Terrorism Policing North East given further time to question them.
Both remain in custody at this time. Yesterday, counter terrorism police raided a property in Morpeth Street in what it described as an “intelligence led” operation.
Humberside Police, which assisted with the raid, increased patrols in the area to provide reassurance to the community. Humberside Fire & Rescue Service was also on the scene.
Bomb disposal experts were sent in “as a precautionary measure”. There was not believed to be immediate risk to the local community, police added.
In a statement today, Counter Terrorism Policing North East said: “Counter Terrorism Policing North East can confirm a Warrant of Further Detention has been approved to continue questioning two people arrested in Hull on Thursday, February 26.
“The man, a white British national and woman, a white Polish national, both aged 23, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, contrary to Section 1(1) of the Criminal Law Act 1977. The man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.
“They have both been rearrested on suspicion of the preparation of terrorist acts, contrary to Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
“Both currently remain in custody. A Warrant of Further Detention was granted today (Friday, February 27) for seven days, giving officers until Thursday, March 5, to hold the suspects.
“A search at a residential address in Hull is currently ongoing in connection with this investigation.
“We understand that local people may have concerns as a result of this activity. We would like to reassure them that this arrest is pre-planned, and intelligence led and there is not believed to be any immediate risk to the local community.”
