When one of the club’s greats backs for you success, you listen.

When a club legend tells you this team can create its own era of greatness, it carries weight.

And as Hull KR chase more success, the belief inside and outside the dressing room has never been stronger.

This crop of players under Willie Peters have already etched their names into the club’s record books – becoming just the fourth Super League side to hold all four major trophies simultaneously – but leaving a legacy is the next step at Sewell Group Craven Park.

It has been a long road to glory, filled with pain and determination, but now they are experiencing the highest of highs – embracing the bright lights of Las Vegas ahead of Saturday’s showdown with Leeds Rhinos at Allegiant Stadium.

Among those travelling to cheer on the Robins in Sin City is former captain, club president and all-time great Mike Smith.

Smith holds the record for the most appearances for Rovers and has won more medals than any other player in the club’s history.

So when he backs you for long-term success, you listen.

“They’re both good sides with great individuals,” said Smith, when asked to compare his team of the 1980s with the current crop.

“This team is trying to leave a legacy like we did in the 80s. Without blowing our own trumpet, we played in 14 finals – you have to do it over a sustained period of time.

“I think this team can do that. We proved how good we were against the Broncos. They thought they were going to walk all over us, but we’ve got great self-belief.”

Smith is soaking up the atmosphere in Vegas ahead of Saturday’s blockbuster and was a popular figure among a bustling crowd at the rugby league fan hub at Resorts World.

Re-living glories of the past, posing for pictures and creating fresh memories with Hull KR supporters, it is a moment few will forget.

“I never dreamt of this,” he said.

“We’re going to enjoy this occasion. After winning the World Club Challenge, we’re on a roll.

“We’re bringing almost 7,000 fans and Leeds will bring a similar number. It’ll be fantastic. It spreads the game and gets more youngsters interested.”
