Annual event will again be hosted by Dove House Hospice
The much-loved Pub to Pub Walk, hosted by Hull’s Dove House Hospice, is set to return this summer. Aiming to raise awareness and proceeds for the hospice and other local causes across Hull and East Yorkshire, the event is to be held on Saturday, June 6.
Starting at the Wetherspoon Sanctuary Bar, at Hull University Students’ Union, based within the University of Hull, the walk encourages supporters to dig out their walking boots and join the hospice to enjoy a challenging point-to-point route of just over 11 miles. The route takes in areas of East Yorkshire’s beautiful countryside, historic villages, including Cottingham and Skidby, urban areas and rural heritage stops.
The event gives walkers chance to stop off for a well-deserved pint in six pubs along the way. Refreshment stops included are Wetherspoon at Sanctuary Bar; Goodfellowship Inn, Hull; Cross Keys, Cottingham; Skidby Lakes Golf Club; Half Moon, Skidby and Duke of Cumberland, Cottingham.
Dan Clipson, senior fundraiser at Dove House Hospice, said: “We are blown away by the continued success of our Pub to Pub Walk. The event is fantastic fun for everyone involved and has become a social staple in the calendar for many of our supporters.
“We have some great pubs on board to help make our walkers’ experience memorable and the route is challenging but achievable for both experienced walkers and amateurs alike”. Registration for the walk costs £20 with walkers being asked to raise at least £30 in sponsor money for their chosen causes.
Each walker will also receive a limited-edition Pub to Pub Walk T-shirt and goodie bag. Participating charities include Dove House Hospice; RSCPA Hull & East Riding; fitmums and friends; Hull University Students’ Athletic Union; Special Stars Foundation; Age UK Hull & East Yorkshire and Hull Women’s Aid – to sign up visit dovehouse.org.uk/pubtopubwalk
Another outdoor event with people putting their best foot forward for Dove House proved a shimmering success. The Tinsel Tree Trot, a festive fundraising campaign involving thousands of nursery and primary school children across Hull and East Yorkshire, raised a record-breaking sum.
The hospice’s annual Christmas -themed events saw children and teachers take part in sponsored runs throughout December – all while wearing Christmas hats – and the result so far is £72,935.76, with organisers expecting the final total to exceed £75,000. This will make the 2025 effort the most successful schools-based fundraiser that Dove House has ever run.
In total, 66 schools took part in the initiative with 12,780 children and teachers supporting the hospice. Dan said: “We are incredibly grateful to the schools that chose to partner with the hospice at Christmas.
“It was fantastic to visit schools before their Tinsel Tree Trot in assemblies across the region to highlight the work of the hospice and show the impact of fundraising from school children. The Tinsel Tree Trot has been a huge success and will make an incredibly positive difference for the care that we can provide across the local community”.
