Tom Amone has been speaking about his move to Hull KR ahead of the club’s World Club Challenge clash with Brisbane Broncos on Thursday
Tom Amone has joined Hull KR with one clear objective: securing silverware. The 29 year old forward is enjoying life under head coach and ‘footy nerd’ Willie Peters, ahead of what is expected to be a demanding 2026 season.
The hard-hitting prop arrives as a direct replacement for Kiwi legend Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, who hung up his boots after guiding the Robins to an historic treble in 2025. Amone was previously selected in the 2023 Super League Dream Team, having become a supporters’ favourite at Leigh Leopards.
His transfer follows a difficult period with the Canterbury Bulldogs in the NRL. “Things didn’t go as planned there, but I feel God’s plans are better than mine,” Amone reflected.
“I’ve fitted in here from the start and I’ve been really happy.”
Once Amone’s desire to return to the northern hemisphere became apparent, clubs including Warrington Wolves and former side Leigh expressed interest. Hull KR eventually secured his signature, following a brief stint at Castleford Tigers in 2025.
“Pre-season has been tough, probably one of the hardest I’ve done – it’s been good,” said Amone, who is poised to make his first appearance of the campaign on Thursday in the World Club Challenge after suffering a broken hand during the winter.
“I’m loving being here, and being around a winning environment and people who want to win more trophies. Everyone is on the same page, and everyone knows what they want.”
Amone is amongst eight fresh signings at Sewell Group Craven Park for the 2026 campaign. His arrival follows the club’s most successful season in East Hull, with the Robins sweeping up every available trophy throughout 2025.
“Where Willie Peters has taken the club to where it is now, I wanted to be a part of that and I wanted to win,” Amone said.
“I’ve loved my time here so far and under Willie. He’s very honest, he’s pretty direct with what he wants and he is also very approachable – not just with rugby, but life outside of rugby, too.
“He’s a bit of a footy nerd as well. When he’s at work, he’s switched on, but then away from rugby, he likes to have a laugh as well.
“And how close the boys are, it’s easy to see why they’ve had success – if you’re happy off the field, you’re happy on the field.
“Everyone here cares about each other, and when they take to the field, they’re willing to put their bodies on the line for each other. When you’re happy, you play your best footy.”
After making his professional bow with South Sydney Rabbitohs before later turning out for Wests Tigers in the NRL, Amone will now face the NRL’s elite in a clash against Brisbane Broncos.
“I’m pretty excited about the World Club Challenge, and at the same time pretty nervous. It’s a good opportunity, and hopefully we can get the win,” Amone added. “I previously played alongside Adam Reynolds at South Sydney Rabbitohs, so I’m looking forward to that reunion. It’s going to be good, and we can’t wait to run out in front of a packed house.”
