A church in the heart of an East Yorkshire village is to be sold at auction. Preston Methodist Church will go under the hammer next month.
Auction House, Hull and East Yorkshire, is inviting viewings of the detached church premises, which include a main church hall, vestry, schoolroom, toilets and kitchen. The guide price on the lot is £40,000 to £50,000, plus fees, and the auction will take place online, ending on Wednesday, March 25.
The church, in Main Street, Preston, sits beside the crossroads junction where Main Street, Station Road, Staithes Road and School Road meet. Auction House has the lot listed as a place of worship and says it is suitable for continued religious use or alternative community, commercial or residential uses, subject to necessary consents.
The Methodist church is arranged in three traditional brick-built, interlinked sections, each under a pitched slate-clad roof, with gas-fired central heating systems thought to serve the premises. “In addition to continued use as a place of worship, there is potential for alternative community or commercial uses, or conversion to residential use, with possible selective demolition, for example, of the kitchen/small outbuilding, to create more external amenity, subject to necessary consents,” Auction House said.
“Preston village has a population of c.3,300, situated on the eastern periphery of Hull, c.6 miles from the city centre and 1.5 miles to the north of the town of Hedon. The property is offered for sale freehold with full vacant possession at a guide price of £40,000 – £50,000 – purchasers are made aware that the organ that is in the building is not included in the sale. It will be removed prior to completion.”
The property will be offered for sale by online auction with bidding starting at noon on Monday, March 23 and closing on Wednesday, March 25 at 1pm. Find the full details on the Auction House website.
