The MKM Stadium is set to turn red and white for Hull KR’s biggest ever night.
Hull KR will mark one of the most significant nights in the club’s history as they prepare to face the Brisbane Broncos for the World Club Challenge title, in a record-breaking sell-out crowd of more than 24,000 fans.
But while the occasion is historic, the setting poses an unusual challenge.
Rather than playing at Sewell Group Craven Park, the Robins’ biggest ever fixture will take place 6.2 miles west at the MKM Stadium – home of Hull City football club, and also used by their fiercest rivals, Hull FC. For Hull KR supporters, that means celebrating the club’s moment on the world stage surrounded by black and white.
In the build‑up to kick‑off, Specsavers will introduce a playful matchday activation designed to turn the stadium from rival colours into Hull KR red and white – with a simple pair of Red Tinted Glasses.
Ahead of kick-off, Specsavers will host popup stands at all four entrances of the MKM Stadium, giving away 20,000 free pairs of cardboard red tinted glasses to Hull KR fans. Inspired by classic 3D cinema glasses, the bespoke lenses allow supporters to instantly transform black into red – meaning that, through the glasses, the stadium looks the way it should.
The result is set to be a striking sea of red tinted perspectives across the stands, helping Robins fans feel more at home on the biggest night in the club’s history.
Hull KR chief executive Paul Lakin said: “For a fixture of this magnitude, we’re committed to creating an atmosphere that reflects just how much it means to our loyal fans. Working with Specsavers to bring the spirit of our club to life in a stadium that isn’t typically home is invaluable and we hope fans look forward to wearing the glasses on matchday.”
Specsavers’ red tinted glasses will be available free of charge to Hull KR supporters outside the MKM Stadium on matchday, February 19. Fans will be encouraged to wear the glasses when prompted just ahead of the traditional fan singalong to iconic anthem Red Red Robin, a track celebrating its 100th year in 2026, for a collective show of Robins pride across the stadium.
Neil Liddle, brand partnerships and sponsorships lead at Specsavers, added: “This activation celebrates the passion, humour and humble nature of Hull KR supporters while tapping into one of rugby league ’s most notable rivalries. For Specsavers, it serves as a natural extension of the brand’s long‑standing commitment to helping people see things differently and better when it matters most.”
