City are becoming regular contributors to the FA’s Christmas party fund

Hull City have been slapped with their third FA charge of the season, after becoming embroiled in ugly scenes late in the game at Deepdale last Tuesday night.

City were 3-0 up and on course for an impressive victory against the play-off rivals Preston North End, before Milutin Osmajić bizarrely headbutted John Lundstram deep into stoppage time.

The fiery Montenegrin striker was sent off by referee Stephen Martin, but tempers flared in the technical area with both benches coming together. The FA is commencing proceedings against both clubs for failing to control their players.

Martin dismissed North End coach Peter Murphy and City goalkeeping coach Erbil Bozkurt for their part in the kerfuffle, and those two have also been charged with improper conduct. Bozkurt was the second City coach to be sent off in successive games after Marko Salatovic was dismissed in the win at Southampton.

“Several charges have been issued following the EFL Championship fixture between Preston North End FC and Hull City AFC on Tuesday, 20 January”, the FA said in a statement.

“It’s alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players and/or technical area staff did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way around the 98th minute. A Preston North End FC first team coach and the Hull City AFC goalkeeping coach allegedly acted in an improper manner at that time, which led to their dismissals. Preston North End FC, Hull City AFC, Peter Murphy and Erbil Bozkurt have until Wednesday, 28 January to submit their respective responses.”

City are likely to receive a hefty fine for their part in the scuffle. It’s their third in a short space of time after events at Birmingham City in October and Stoke City at the end of November, with all three coming after impressive away victories.

The Tigers were fined £25,000 after what happened at St Andrew’s, and then another £50,000 for the post-match silliness at the bet365 Stadium.

Birmingham were slapped with a £115,000 fine for instigating events against City, which was their sixth such altercation since the start of last season.
