The Tigers have brought in more experience after losing Semi Ajayi to injury

Hull City have struck a deal to sign Northern Ireland international Paddy McNair. The 30-year-old former Manchester United and Middlesbrough defender is expected to arrive on a free transfer from MLS side San Diego FC. City have been keen to add to their defensive ranks and had been keeping their options open before Semi Ajayi’s hamstring injury, which he sustained in Nigeria’s third-placed win over Egypt on Sunday night. The loss of Ajayi for approximately seven weeks increased the need to add further options to the squad, with City now making a move for McNair. A vastly experienced performer, the Norther Ireland international defender has amassed more than two hundred appearances in the Championship, playing for Middlesbrough, Sunderland and West Brom before moving to the MLS.

McNair’s arrival is expected to be the third arrival of a busy few days, following the imminent signings of Kieran Dowell, who will move to City on a free transfer from Rangers, and Toby Collyer is joining on loan from McNair’s former club Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Japan international winger Yu Hirakawa has already arrived this month, while Kasey Palmer has completed his loan move to Luton Town for the remainder of the season.
