‘If you are over the limit, you will be arrested, no excuses’
Humberside Police has said they are continuing proactive efforts to tackle drink and drug driving. Here’s what you need to know:
- The force said it has increased the number of roadside breath and drug tests. As well as this, officers are undertaking more vehicle checks in areas where collisions have previously occurred.
- Between December 1 and December 31, officers from the Roads Policing Unit carried out 1,458 breath tests. Officers also carried out 94 drug tests in this period.
- Across the force, through both these proactive operations and routine duties, officers arrested 89 people for drink driving and 66 for drug driving. 11 people were also arrested for failing to provide a specimen.
- Inspector John Rickells from the Roads Policing Unit said: “My officers will be out across the force area conducting roadside testing alongside their usual duties to ensure our roads remain safe for all motorists. The message is clear: any amount of drink or drugs affects your driving. It’s never worth the risk. Enforcement takes place all year round, not just during the festive season. If you are over the limit, you will be arrested, no excuses.”
